Projects
With a little peanut on the way we have a lot of projects to do around the house….or at least I’m making a lot of projects to do around the house. This weekend I emptied our hall linen closet completely, removed the contact paper from the shelves, and painted the closet and the shelves. Then, I put everything back in a neat, organized manner. I just hopes it stays looking this nice!!!
Now, I’m working on our closet in the office. I bought shelves and tracking at the local home improvements store and today Josh ripped out the old shelf and I started patching the walls. I don’t have any paint to match so I’ll have to use whatever random paint I have lying around. I will post the after shot hopefully later on today.
Other to do’s:
- Sell our guestroom bed to some lucky college student
- Buy vintage wallpaper to use in cabinet in baby’s room
- Buy alphabet cards and frames to hang on baby’s wall
- Bring in crib that a person at work is giving me
- Figure out what else I’m going to use in decorating the room
Finally back
So, I haven’t been doing that well with my blog resolution, but I think I have some good excuses.
First, my grandmother passed away in January, which resulted in a week back home in Ohio. It was tough. I needed to be home to be with my mom, and honestly, it was the most time I’ve spent at home since moving to Minnesota. It’s funny how something so sad can bring together people. I guess I’ve been expecting her to pass away for some time, but I always expected it when she was in the hospital or feeling really bad. So, the timing was unexpected. To make matters worse, this all happened right before my birthday and she was actually buried on my b-day. I will never forget that birthday. I am taking comfort in remember all of the wonderful things about my “Oma”, and I am still struggling with the spontaneous cry every once in a while when I think of her. One thing that I am looking forward to is hanging her cukoo clock in my house when my mom sends it to me.
As for crafting, I’ve done some things….mainly gifts. I just had to work on a mobile swap I signed up for and I’m not the happiest with my mobile, but I gave it a shot. It’s more of a windchime than mobile in my book. It has vintage silverware hanging from a small muffin (?) tin. I also included a hand embroidered dishtowel to try and make up for my no skills in making a mobile. The mobile I received was awesome! I will post it’s photo soon, but for now I need to go to bed.
The Joy of the Doughnut
The crafting continues….
I made a crochet doughnut pincushion the other day…my first 3-D object, and I am really pleased. Now, my mom wants one, and I have lots of craft fair aspirations- baby rattle perhaps packaged like a real doughnut? hmm….I have some ideas…
Here’s the link to the pattern:

My niece’s birthday is coming up, so I think a birthday doughnut, or perhaps cupcake is in order. For the rest of the gifts, I’m still stumped. I really want to give her some paper dolls, but more because I liked paper dolls, and I’m not sure she would. In this day of electronics, etc, do kids still appreciate a good old-fashioned paper doll? So, I guess I’ll think on that some more….I still have some time.
New Year’s Resolution
Things I still would want to do/make tomorrow, but know I can’t:
- refinish two dressers
- make a bag out of fusing plastic bags…..see the tutorial from etsy labs:
http://etsylabs.blogspot.com/2007/05/long-overdue-fusing-plastic-bag.html
- make a purse out of a bag of chips (no kidding!) I saw this on TV today while I was taking down the tree and packing up ornaments:

- and, even though Christmas is over, there are just too many wonderful blogs out there with great ideas, and I really want to make these ornaments from elsiemarley’s Dec. 19th blog post:

My friend Amy had some cookie cutters that looked like those, and I am mad I didn’t think of those ornaments first! How cute are they?
In work hell
Right now I feel like I am in work hell. I just got my work emails down from 800+ to in the 300′s range. I’m feeling pretty good about that, but it is sad that it took me so long to delete/file all of the old stuff.
I’m trying to work on crafty projects, but struggling since I’m on the road. I brought my trusty crochet, so that is keeping me good for now.
I’ve been reading up on some good blogs lately:
Nothing much else is new…I need to post some pics here soon….
And on Tuesday Adrian Created
